Europe's Longest Eco Wall!
Villa Saint Exupery has Europe's Longest Eco Wall!
Our local birds also find enjoyment as the wall provides for them safety and refuge, nesting and well-being.
Our local birds also find enjoyment as the wall provides for them safety and refuge, nesting and well-being.
The wall is constructed from two rows of steel mesh, and filled with 100% organic material.
Made from 500 year old Chilean Sphagnum Moss, anything can be planted in this wall.
Sphagnum can absorb up to 50 times its weight in water, allowing for long term retention of water and nutrients for plant roots.
More retention means less watering and healthier plants!
The moss is 100% organic, and while retaining a considerable amount of water, it also retains ample amounts of air.
This creates an optimal environment for plant root zones, giving plants all of the air and water needed to stay healthy and grow fast.
This state of the art urban agriculture is also a means for utility water reuse.
The plants may purify slightly polluted water (such as greywater from washing dishes or laundry) by digesting the dissolved nutrients.
Bacteria mineralise the organic components to make them readily available to the plants, while the plants create an abundance of extra oxygen to the immediate environment.
